TUSCAN SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE
for advanced dancers
COME TO DANCE.
GO HOME CHANGED.
Session One: June 8-29, 2013
Session Two: July 6-27, 2013
Join us in magical Tuscany on the beautiful Mediterranean Sea for Tuscan Summer Dance Intensive, a unique program of dance training and cultural tourism sure to push your artistic edges and open your heart and mind.
MORE THAN JUST DANCING
Although training is at the core of this program, we believe it's also important to have a cultural experience that touches you in a meaningful way.
Tuscan Summer Dance Intensive is based in the decidedly NON tourist city of Livorno (Leghorn), where you will be housed in apartments in the center of town and see a more normal side of Italy (and do your own grocery shopping, take public transport, and get along in a place where English is not widely spoken). Although it can't boast the beauty of Florence, Livorno is really quite delightful in its own modest way, and the seaside here in summer is absolutely fantastic.
Our goal is to help you get a taste of la bella vita -- the beautiful life in which we slow down and take time to enjoy a place, its food, its art, and each other.
OUR EXCELLENT & ECONOMICAL TOURISM OPTIONS
If you'd like an organized, economical way to experience some of the most legendary places in Italy, you can participate in our 3-day excursion to Rome, our day trip to Florence, Pisa and a Chianti winery and/or our day trip to Venice. Knowing that many students are on limited budgets, these bits are optional.
MORE ABOUT THE DANCE WORKSHOP
Tuscan Summer Dance Intensive offers solid dance training in the major genres plus significant opportunity to broaden your scope as a dancer thru an excellent selection of interesting forms such as Swing, body rhythm and Fosse jazz, for example. (More details available once faculty is finalized.)
Composition and choreo labs will feature our guest instructors.
Public performances are possible. In 2012 Elena Chirchietti set a lyrical piece on our group that was performed at beautiful Teatro Goldoni in Livorno. Every year features some sort of site specific work that's a lot of fun.
Add to all of this yoga, pilates and body conditioning and you have a recipe for an experience that will leave you stronger but more serene, more technically capable, and full of ideas to enrich your main dance focus.
Important note: you will be dancing in professional, modern studios with proper floors and AIR CONDITIONING at Studio Live. If you are considering other dance programs in Italy, ask them about their facilities. Without AC, the summer heat can really diminish your dance experience.
OUR TERRIFIC FACULTY
Here's a list of instructors who have indicated their intention to join us in 2013. Please keep in mind this is all to be confirmed, but at least you can get a sense of the level/quality of instruction and styles to expect. Click on an instructor's name to jump to their bio (or website).

DAILY WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:
All program events, schedules, faculty and lodgings are subject to change. Exact classes offered will depend on teachers. Faculty substitutions will be of comparable qualifications, skill and reputation. If events must be modified, we will make every effort to substitute an experience of equal type, significance and value. In the event of a train strike or other occurrence that forces us to remain in a excursion city beyond the planned duration, students are responsible for the cost of any extra overnight lodgings.
Please note we are not the same as, nor are we affiliated with, Toscana Summer Dance, Prodanza Italia or Florence Summer Dance Intensive.
