ELECTRICITY

PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION! You may blow up your electronics or start a fire if you're not careful. No joke.

For appliances (blow dryers, curling irons, shavers) you'll need a converter that steps down the electrical current, one with a high heat setting if you will be using hair appliances or anything that generates heat.  NOTE: a plug adapter is NOT the same as a converter -- the converter steps down the 220 current to 110 and will keep you from melting your curling iron or burning down your Italian apartment. The converter is a small box (about 2"x2"x3"). They can be purchased at your local auto club or luggage store.

If you are bringing a computer and have a Mac, it has a built-in converter and you will only need a plug adapter (buy a World Travel Adapter Kit).

For a PC and other electronics, you will need a transformer (ALSO NOTE: this is different from a converter).  Transformers can also be purchased at a luggage shop or auto club. They're heavy, but necessary for electronics - like computers and battery chargers - that will stay plugged in for longer periods of time.
